TANGLES
Commission installed at the new Calgary Stampede Art Collection in the BMO Centre
"Grasslands Tapestry is a magnified view of the subtle beauty of prairie grasslands where, as a child, I enjoyed lying on the ground, feeling the wind, and watching grasses sway below a startling blue sky. This is an experiential painting which captures the sensations of the grasses’ movement, their colour nuances, variety, and immensity, bearing witness to those who lived on this remarkable land for thousands of years and all those living here today. Large sweeping gestures intermingled with texture using oil and cold wax and an array of incising tools, portray immersion, dynamism, and wonder.
Over the past 20 years, I have celebrated nature by focusing on close-up views of specific environments. In Grasslands Tapestry, I explore entanglement, the interweaving of myriad types of growth, and our rooted and inescapable connection to the earth."
TANGLES ARTIST STATEMENT
lo show TANGLES, Teresa Posyniak's love of line merges with her continuing exploration of close-up views of nature. She literally draws on her memories, imagination and everyday observations for inspiration.
The profusion of intermingling lines, colours and shapes are reminiscent of prairie grasses, wildflowers, trees, branches, twigs and leaves. This show is about reveling in the beauty of our natural surroundings, paying attention to the myriad lines, some in the form of twigs and branches etched against the sky, some more reflective of grasses and wildflowers. This joyful body of work slowly evolved during the covid years when Posyniak was trying to recover from an injury caused by a car accident in early 2020.
